Duong Lam ancient village
Duong Lam ancient village is located in the southern bank of the Red River in Son Tay town, Hanoi, about 50 km from Hanoi. This is the first village to be recognized as the National Cultural History and Cultural Heritage in 2006.
With the typical beauty of the northern villages, this place still preserves the rustic simplicity of the ancient house’s roof. The yards, roads were paved with old flagstones. The moss-covered roofs of communal house, stone trees, wells …All create the village unique and special. The beauty of Duong Lam ancient village is not as brilliant as Hoi An ancient town or less great than Hanoi old town. This place is just a small village which is rare village preserving the cultural heritage of Vietnamese.
The ancient houses in Duong Lam village have been built since 1649s, 1703s, 1850s. According to statistic, there are now 956 traditional houses in Duong Lam. The oldest house has been built for over 400 years. The walls is made by stone honeycomb, wood doors is unique architecture …. Especially, Mong Phu communal house is seen as the center, as it has many historical sites including communal houses, old houses, and the clan’s worshiping house. This is in the typical architectural style of an old Vietnamese village.

In order to enter Duong Lam ancient village,visitros will pass through the wood gate , which is typical of Northern village with the porticoes curved-shape roofed. The village retains the closed structure with a main road, from which radiates around the corner of the village. Surrounding the village is the rice fields, ponds creating charming landscape.

Duong Lam village does not have much cuisine. Food is not as diverse as other places. However, coming to this place, visitors can learn the tradition method to make soybean sauce of Duong Lam’s people . The main ingredients are maize, beans, or sticky rice. Soybean sauce becomes the soul of cuisine, is indispensable dish in every meal of local people.
